How much does a website cost in Germany? Realistic price ranges for site builders, freelancers and agencies, the biggest cost drivers, running costs and how to spot a fair quote.

A professional website for a small business in Germany usually costs between €1,500 and €6,000. A simple one-pager starts at around €800, while an online shop rarely costs less than €5,000. What you end up paying depends less on the “design” and more on scope, content, features — and on who builds it.
Prices by website type
These are the ranges you will see when you ask three or four providers in Germany for a quote. They are market figures, not our prices — our packages are listed separately further down so you don't mix up the market and our offer.
| Website type | Market range (DE) | Typical scope | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|---|
| One-pager / digital business card | €800–2,000 | One page, mobile-optimised, contact form, legal notice, privacy policy | Trades, practices, restaurants, freelancers |
| Business website | €2,000–6,000 | 5–10 pages, custom design, SEO basics, analytics | SMEs, service providers, law firms |
| Website with CMS | €3,000–10,000 | As above plus content management, blog, training | Businesses with frequently changing content |
| Online shop | €5,000–25,000+ | Products, cart, payment, shipping, legal texts | Retailers and brands selling direct |
| Custom web app | from €15,000 | Portals, booking systems, integrations | Companies with their own processes |
What really drives the price
1. Number of pages and content
Every page has to be planned, designed, filled and tested. The biggest hidden effort is often content: who supplies the text and photos? If the agency writes the copy, expect an extra €100–200 per page — usually worth it, because good copy decides enquiries and Google rankings.
2. Custom design or template
A bought theme is cheap, but often looks like a hundred other sites and ships with unnecessary code that slows the page down. A custom design takes more time, fits your brand and loads faster.
3. Features
Online booking, multiple languages, customer login, integrations with inventory or CRM — every feature means development and testing. Be honest about which features will actually generate revenue in the first twelve months.
4. Legal compliance and accessibility
In Germany, a legal notice (Impressum), a privacy policy and a proper cookie banner are mandatory. Cease-and-desist letters over missing information cost more than any website. More on this in our article on website legal requirements.
5. Who builds the website?
German agencies typically charge €80–150 per hour, freelancers €50–100. Nearshore teams cost significantly less — with the same technology. We explain why and what to watch out for in our article on nearshore web development.
Running costs people forget
- Domain: €10–20 per year for a .de domain
- Hosting: €5–30 per month depending on performance — ideally with servers in the EU
- Maintenance and updates: €30–150 per month with agencies, depending on scope
- Licences for premium plugins, fonts or images
- Changes after launch if they are not covered by a maintenance plan

Six questions to ask before you sign
- Is the price fixed — or an hourly estimate?
- Who owns the domain, code and content after the project?
- Are the legal notice, privacy policy and cookie banner included?
- How many rounds of revisions are included?
- What does a change after launch cost?
- Where is the site hosted, and is there a data processing agreement (DPA)?
- How much does a simple website for a freelancer cost?
- A professional one-pager costs around €800–2,000 on the market. Our START package is €990 net, including legal texts and a Google Business Profile.
- Is a website builder cheaper?
- At first, yes. Over three to five years, subscription fees, premium features and your own time often add up to a similar amount — with less control over speed, SEO and design.
- Can I deduct the cost for tax purposes?
- Usually yes, as a business expense or through depreciation. Please check the details with your tax adviser.
